A Dream That Became a Way

For as long as he can remember, James dreamed of farming. He just never knew how that dream would become a reality. What follows is how a road opened, one step at a time.

The Waymaker name

“What once looked like a dream without a way became a reminder that God had been making the way all along.”

A Road That Opened One Step at a Time

  1. 2013The beginning

    James and April marry

James earned a degree in accounting from Valdosta State University, but graduated during the financial crisis when jobs were scarce, and began a career in telecommunications. April graduated from the University of Georgia in poultry science before pursuing a career in pharmacy.

  2. 2015A door opens

    An eight-house broiler poultry operation

2 years after we married, a door into agriculture began to open. What began with poultry gradually grew into something more.

  3. 2021The orchard

90 acres of pecan trees planted

Creek, Lakota and Caddo, kept separated by variety so each can be offered as a distinct product.

  4. 2024Citrus

    1,500 citrus trees added

Shiranui and Tango mandarins and Pink Frost grapefruit. The same year, April began experiencing health challenges and later stepped away from pharmacy to homeschool their three children.

  5. 2025A new way to farm

    Waymaker Soil Solutions

Their study of composting, soil health, microbiology and regenerative agriculture changed the way they viewed farming — and led to what they now call creation-inspired regenerative agriculture.

  6. 2026Put into practice

    Across our own orchards

Biologically active composted poultry litter to rebuild the soil, humus compost extract as the foundation of the foliar program, cover crops incorporated into orchard-floor management, and Regenerative Verified™ certification through Soil Regen.

Why "Waymaker"The road to farming wasn't the road James and April would have drawn for themselves — which is part of why the name means so much.

Creation-Inspired Stewardship

Instead of simply asking, "What does the plant need?" they began asking, "What does God's creation already provide, and how can we work with it instead of against it?" The goal was no longer simply to grow a crop. It was to become better stewards of what God had entrusted to them — to build healthier soil, grow healthier plants, produce exceptional food, and leave the land better for the next generation.

Creation-Inspired Regenerative Agriculture

We believe healthy plants are built from healthy, living soil. Rather than focusing only on feeding the tree, we focus on feeding and rebuilding the soil ecosystem — working with natural systems rather than simply treating symptoms.

Feed the Soil

Feed the Soil

“Biologically active compost, soil biology, and rebuilding healthy soil.”

Biologically active composted poultry litter feeds soil biology, builds organic matter and returns nutrients to the orchard. Humus compost extract is the foundation of our foliar fertility program.

Work With Creation

Work With Creation

“Cover crops, living roots, natural systems, and reduced chemical disturbance.”

Our pecan and citrus orchards are Regenerative Verified™ through Soil Regen, and we incorporate cover crops into orchard-floor management to keep living roots in the soil, build biomass and support biological diversity.

Grow With Purpose

Grow With Purpose

“Healthy soil, healthy trees, exceptional food, and responsible stewardship.”

Natural products and unconventional management practices support plant health and help manage pecan scab and insect pressure — so we can leave the land better for the next generation.

Caretakers of His Creation

Caretakers of His Creation

“We believe the way we grow food can point people to the One who created it.”

Waymaker Pecans exists to glorify God by growing exceptional food through faithful stewardship of His creation, building meaningful relationships, and creating opportunities to point people toward Christ. We believe every harvest is a gift, and that the relationships created through sharing that harvest can become opportunities to share something far greater.
